Local 89, be STRONG in your workplace !

IBEW LOCAL 89, representing workers in the Northwest since 1968.

Organize Your Workplace!

No matter who you work for, you ARE legally entitled to organize your workplace. It is a law of our land, the land of the FREE, and the home of the BRAVE.

I.B.E.W. Local Union 89 is committed to helping those people who want to work in a Union environment. If you want a voice at work, we will help you get it!

You may already be acting like a union but aren't quite there yet.

For example, joining with others at work to improve your wages or working conditions, raise your standard of living, or make your jobs safer is acting like a union.

Doing it without a contract means you are not quite there yet. Your power to negotiate with your employer is very limited because they have all the power.

Take it all the way, work to bring a contract into your workplace. Take the first step to give yourself dignity at work and level the playing field with your employer.

Click here to see some contracts IBEW LU89 members have with their employers.

People who work non-union or without a contract are "at will" employees.  "At will" means your employment is at your boss's or employer's pleasure.

The most important thing about any contract is that it is in writing and legally enforceable.  Workers in non-union environments should not be fooled into thinking they "have everything". If "it ain't there, it ain't there!"  No contract - then the boss rules everyting!!
