Local 89 is not just affiliated with the Telephone Electrical Industry.  We also carry contracts for Manufacturing, Clerical, Tree Trimming, CATV and Mechanics.

We are a full referral Local for our Outside Construction Telephone Industry.

 

Outside Construction Work

If you are interested in working in the Outside Telephone Construction Industry, please contact the Union Hall to register on our out-of-work books or to save time - download, open and print the out-of-work card and work experience form below and mail or fax them to the Union Hall.

We are always in need of Telephone Lineman and Telephone Trainees.  The sooner you register, the sooner you could be called to work.

VERIZON ISSUES

On April 24, 2008 Business Manager Ray Egelhoff, meet in Washington, DC with our International President, Ed Hill,  Martha Pultar Director ,International Telecommunications, Robert Erickson International Representative  and Business Managers Doug Sellars,LU 824, Myles Calvey LU 2222,John Miller LU 827,Mary Jo Arcuri LU 2213.
Virginia Rusterholtz, Bobby Mudge, Jack Navarro, Mark Reed from Verizon.
The issues discussed were, Safety, contracts, grievances, arbitrations, and the general working relationship between Verizon and the Unions representing the work force.
We have agreed to hold conference calls with Business Managers and Union Safety Officers throughout Verizon areas to see what needs to be done to provide training and reduce accidents.
AS MORE MEETINGS TAKE PLACE, I WILL UPDATE THE RESULTS.
May 30th, 2008.
On Friday May 30th, 2008 a conference call with Verizon Safety Director and Union Business Managers and safety managers was held.
Items discussed are the need for standardized training and follow up that is presented jointy by verizon and Union. Such as electrical, ladder, and climbing safety.
Other issues will be discussed on the next conference call.

The Pension protection act has brought many changes, shoring up of the Pension benefit guaranty, allowing employees to move Company Match of Stocks to a selection of the employees choice, to the latest, Survivors pension benefits that has increased from 65% to 75%.
